How does the potential energy of an object change when its height is tripled?
By Forinfos - 05/02/2026 - 0 comments
As the height of an object triples, the potential energy of said object also triples. Potential energy is directly related to an object’s height and increases or decreases linearly as the height of the object increases or decreases.
Potential energy is equal to mgh, or mass multiplied by acceleration due to gravity multiplied by the height of the object. It exists whenever an object with mass holds a position above the ground. This form of energy is closely related to kinetic energy. As an object moves from one height to another, it will either gain or lose kinetic energy in order to conserve total energy. The equation for the conservation of total energy is potential energy plus kinetic energy.
