According to the Orange County Register, as of January 2011, the president of LA Fitness is Louis Welch, The chain of health clubs, privately owned by its executive management team, was founded in 1984 and is headquartered in Irvine, California.

Since 1998, Seidler Equity Partners, a Marina del Rey private equity firm, has held a major interest in the business, having provided both planning and growth capital to support the company?s expansion plans.

Two other investment companies that share ownership are CIVC Partners, which joined in the early 2000s, and Madison Dearborn Partners, which acquired a fifth of LA Fitness in 2007. Both companies are from Chicago.
