Titanium is a very strong, shiny silver metal of low density with high resistance to corrosion. With strength comparable to that of steel, this transitional metal is nevertheless much lighter and is used in situations that require great heat resistance, such as in space-related materials.

Titanium has a melting point of 3,038 degrees Fahrenheit and a boiling point of 5,948.6 degrees Fahrenheit. It is most ductile in oxygen-free circumstances, and it burns in both air and nitrogen. It is a physiologically inert element. It is not magnetic, and it does not conduct heat or electricity well. First discovered by William Gregor in 1791, titanium has the atomic number 22 and the symbol Ti.
