Phil and his predecessors have been forecasting the weather since 1887, according to LiveScience. In the past 120 years, Punxsutawney's famous groundhog has been accurate with his predictions of an early spring only 47 percent of the time, with an overall rate of successful forecasts falling to less than 40 percent.
