What is a Puron refrigerant?

Puron (R-410A) is a gas used as a refrigerant in air conditioning systems. It is marketed as a more environmentally-friendly alternative to more commonly used hydrochlorofluorocarbons (R-22, or freon).

Puron is a trade name for R-410A owned by Carrier Corporation, the first company to introduce it as a refrigerant. R-410A does not deplete the ozone layer and is expected to have much less impact on global warming than R-22. It has become more widely used since the signing of the Montreal Protocol, which mandates that all members of the United Nations gradually phase out the use of R-22 in their countries.
