The purpose of BRC certification is to ensure food safety through legal compliance, thereby also assuring consumer safety, notes Cert-Id. BRC certification ensures compliance with the Global Food Safety Initiative, or GFSI.
There are over 22,000 BRC certified food suppliers coming out of 123 countries, states BRC Global Standards. BRC standards ensure food is handled and packaged in a manner that ensures quality and protects consumers. BRC standards are also required by several major global retailers, including Walmart. BRC certification bodies send auditors who weigh the producer's safety measures against BRC standards before the certification bodies are able to grant certification to food producers.
