What purpose do Ford upfitter switches serve?

Ford upfitter switches are panel-mount switches that control aftermarket optional accessories and instruments, including off-road lights, winches and snow plows. The switches control a set of relays mounted on the passenger side. These switches are located to the left of the steering column, beneath the instrument panel.
Ford upfitter switches were introduced in 2005 for the Ford Super Duty line of trucks. The upfitter switches are relay controlled and are designed to only work when the ignition key is in the run position to reduce the risk of draining the battery.
Ford upfitter switches provide two 30-ampere and two 10-ampere circuits.
