An applicant writes a letter of intent to a human resources employee or a manager of a company to express interest in employment. It is similar to a cover letter, but the letter doesn't apply to a specific position.

While a cover letter focuses on the open position, a letter of intent focuses on the applicant's personal qualities and genuine interest in certain types of roles within the organization.
