What is the purpose of MAP math testing?

MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing provides a personal assessment of progress in elementary-level mathematics on a student-by-student basis, as the Northwest Evaluation Association explains on its website. This assessment helps teachers tailor lesson plans to the individual needs of students.
MAP testing provides quick and up-to-date information on student progress. The immediacy of this testing allows teachers to develop a current picture of a student's academic ability and tailor lessons accordingly. While broader annual testing is common in most elementary schools, MAP testing is conducted on a smaller scale in order to hone in on a student's progress over the course of an academic year.
