What is the purpose of the mesentery?
By Forinfos - 04/03/2026 - 0 comments
The mesentery is the part of the peritoneum that attaches the intestines to the wall of the abdomen. The peritoneum is the tissue that lines the wall of the abdomen.
It also provides cover and protection to the organs inside the stomach. The mesentery is composed of tissue and on occasion, the fatty tissue can become inflamed or scarred. When this occurs, the small or large intestine can be affected and the person suffering from the condition may experience stomach pain and other symptoms. The exact reason for the scarring or inflammation, also known as sclerosing mesenteritis, is unknown, but it was first recorded medically in 1924.
