A spectroscope is used to split light into various wavelengths. This specialized scientific device is used in physics, chemistry and biology to determine the purity or composition of different substances. A spectroscope is also used to help astronomers identify the motion, temperature and structure of celestial objects.
A spectroscope is particularly useful in understanding the different elements in stars, planets and interstellar space. This scientific instrument receives and disperses radiant energy or light into a spectrum. After the process of analysis is complete, a record of the spectrum is produced by the spectroscope. This record is known as a spectrograph.
