What qualifications do you need to be a mall security guard?

Qualifications for a mall security guard include a high school diploma, good physical health, a security guard license and a clean criminal background. For supervisory positions, a mall security guard may need to have a bachelor's degree or be a Certified Protection Professional (CPP).

While the general requirement for a mall security guard at a lower level is to be above 18 years old and possess a high school diploma, more demanding levels require extra training. Some malls may prefer to hire a person with a security-oriented degree in areas such as criminology or criminal justice.

Most states also require security guards to have certifications after extensive security guard trainings. Companies may require training before or after employment.

To be a CPP, a mall security guard has to pass an exam and have seven years' experience.
