Quetiapine is the generic name of Seroquel, which is an antipsychotic medicine. It is used by individuals with schizophrenia to alter undesirable actions of chemicals in the brain.
Quetiapine is also used to treat bipolar disorder in adults and children over the age of 10. It is sometimes combined with antidepressants to treat major depressive disorder in adults, but taking more than the recommended dose or using it for longer than prescribed can cause serious movement disorders that may not be reversible. If a patient using this drug experiences rigidity of the muscles, uncontrollable movements or tremors, blurred vision or difficulty breathing, emergency medical help is required.
