R134a, also known as HFC-134a, Suva134a, Florasol 134a, Genetron 134a, Forane 134a and 1,1,1,2-Tetraflouroethane is a haloalkane refrigerant that has properties similar to R-12 (dichlorodifluoromethane), but with less ozone depletion potential. It is used primarily for domestic refrigeration and automobile air conditioning and as a propellant for aerosols.
R134a is a inert gas that has a boiling point of -26.3°C (-15.34°F) at atmospheric pressures. The R134a cylinders are identified by their light blue color. The gas has a molecular weight of 102.03 g/mol. It is soluble in water at (1.013 bar and 25°C (77°F)) : 0.21 vol/vol, with a melting point in its solid phase of (1.013 bar) : -101°C.
