Are rabbits herbivores?

Rabbits are herbivores both in the wild and in captivity. Wild rabbits eat grass, flowers and other readily available plants in the summer and switch to eating twigs and bark along with any green vegetation they can find in the winter.
In captivity, the majority of a rabbit's diet should consist of hay and grass. In addition to hay, pet owners should feed their rabbits a variety of leafy greens, such as cabbage, kale and parsley. A rabbit's diet can be supplemented with feed pellets, which are made of different grains and dried plant matter. As a special treat, domesticated rabbits can occasionally eat fruits and vegetables, such as carrots and apples.
