Rabindranath Tagore was a Bengali poet, writer and educator who composed "Unending Love." He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. He was the leader of a Bengali religious sect called Brahmo Samaj.
Tagore's poems gained popularity in Bengali language first, and they were then translated and became highly famous in the West. Tagore became a spokesperson for Indian and Bengali heritage and spirituality. In 1915, he was knighted by the British Government; however, he resigned after a few years in protest against the British rule in India. In addition to "Unending Love," he also wrote other famous poems, including "The Ideal One," or "Manasi," and "The Golden Boat" or "Sonar Tari."
