What are some raccoon adaptations?

Raccoons have changed their diet in order to survive in areas that humans have begun living in. They have also learned to use their opposable thumbs.
With humans moving into so many areas, raccoons have broadened their diet. They will now look for scraps that have been left out. Since they have opposable thumbs, they have learned how to remove lids from trash cans. This allows them to find food easier. Raccoons also adapt to the changing seasons by gaining weight to keep them warm since they do not hibernate during the winter. They might stay in their dens during the coldest times and burn the extra weight off.
