What is a Ragdoll cat?

The Ragdoll is a long-haired cat breed developed by Ann Baker in the 1960s. It comes in four color patterns but does not come in solid colors. A similar breed, the Ragamuffin, descends from Baker's foundation stock and comes in all colors, including white.
Both Ragdolls and Ragamuffins are large, sturdy cats with gentle, affectionate dispositions. Not particularly active, they are calm, patient and usually tolerant of small children. They are easy to care for, and their coats do not mat easily in spite of their long fur. Both breeds are slow to mature and do not reach full growth until they are about 4 years old.
