What is the Raspberry Pi?

Raspberry Pi is a simple computer designed to help children and adults learn how to build computers and use code, particularly in schools. The basic Raspberry Pi is the size of a credit card, but it can be expanded with many extra pieces to allow for more advanced electronic projects.

The Raspberry Pi unit is a single-board computer containing all the components necessary to run a computer system, such as memory and a processor, when attached to a screen and a keyboard. As of 2014, it is able to run some Linux operating systems but not Windows. It was originally released in 2012 by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and is sold primarily online.
