What is a real time stock ticker?

A real time stock ticker is a live report of price changes for many different types of stocks or bonds that are traded in various stock markets. In the past, stock tickers were printed on paper. Currently, stock tickers are electronic tools that can have delays up to 20 minutes.

The NASDAQ website offers free stock ticker toolbars for people who are interested in watching their investments in real time. One toolbar, called the Market Ticker, can track net changes to stock prices and provide the most recent updates to other stock markets such as the Amex, OTCBB and NYSE.
