When a MacBook Pro is frozen and will not respond to commands, it must be rebooted by forcibly shutting it down and then restarting it. This method should only be used when the computer is truly frozen and unresponsive to all actions, including opening the task window.
It only takes a couple of steps to reboot a MacBook Pro.
- Press the power button Find the power button on the keyboard. Press this button and hold it until the computer shuts down. This is indicated by the lighting behind the keyboard and the screen extinguishing. Full shutdown may take holding the button for up to 5 seconds.
- Restart the computer Once the computer is shut down, allow it to sit for several seconds. Press the power button again to restart the computer.
