As of 2016, some record-breaking pumpkins are Ron Wallace's 2,200-pound pumpkin in Rhode Island, the largest gourd of its kind in North America, and Beni Meier's 2,323.7-pound pumpkin in Switzerland, which holds the record as the world's largest pumpkin. Record-breaking giant pumpkins rely on enriched soil, fertilizers and genetics.

The majority of prize-winning pumpkins can trace their roots back to the Atlantic Giant and Mammoth pumpkin varieties. During peak growing season, giant pumpkins can grow 40 to 50 pounds a day. Another pumpkin-related world record is the longest line of carved pumpkins that consists of 2,015 pumpkins, achieved by the Eniwa Happy Halloween Executive Committee in Eniwa, Japan.
