Recovery time for hemorrhoid rubber band ligation typically ranges from immediate recovery to three days of bed rest, according to WebMD. The patient may experience slight bleeding seven to 10 days after surgery, due to the hemorrhoid falling off.
Health care professionals perform rubber band ligation for hemorrhoids by inserting an anoscope, or viewing instrument, into the anus, holding the hemorrhoid in place with an instrument and tying a rubber band around the hemorrhoid's base, explains WebMD. The hemorrhoid shrinks and dies due to loss of blood flow, eventually falling off in about a week. Rubber band ligation only works for internal hemorrhoids.
