Depending on the amount of tissue and bone affected by the procedure, recovery from bunion surgery can take between six weeks and six months, according to WebMD. It may take as long as a full year before total healing occurs.
Stitches are removed within one-to-three weeks following bunion surgery, and any pins are removed three-to-six weeks after the procedure, explains WebMD. Usually, patients can begin wearing regular shoes about a month after the procedure, but in some cases, they must wear special shoes for two months. Patients can resume some normal activities six to eight weeks after their bunion surgery.
