Where do you find rectocele photos?

Some websites displaying cross-section and anatomical pictures of rectoceles include Mayo Clinic, WebMD, Vanderbilt Health and the Alinsod Institute. Some of the pictures compare healthy anatomy to the rectoceles, a condition in which the rectum herniates, or bulges, into the vagina. The Alinsod Institute provides photographs of patients with rectoceles.

Also called posterior prolapse, a rectocele occurs as a result of a weakening or stretching of the tissue that normally separates the rectum and the vagina. As the rectum pushes against the back of the vagina, the drawings depict the rectocele bulging into the vagina under the uterus. Labels identify the uterus, bladder, rectum, urethra and retrocele.
