Red clover is a plant belonging to the legume family that has commonly been used medicinally in cases of cancer, skin inflammation, whooping cough and respiratory problems. Scientists identified that red clover contains isoflavones, a type of chemical that causes reactions similar to estrogen in the body.
Red clover typically grows in Europe, Asia and North America. The clover has red flowers at the end of stems that are typically dried before medical use. Red clover is used in a variety of preparations including teas, tablets, capsules, extracts and tinctures. It is also available in ointments that can be applied directly to skin for the treatment of psoriasis or eczema.
