How do you get a Red Gyarados in "Pokémon Diamond"?

A Red Gyarados evolves from a shiny Magikarp in "Pokémon Diamond." While there are references to a Red Gyarados in the storyline, there is not an event that makes one available as it is in previous versions. The player needs to find a shiny Magikarp or Gyarados in the wild.
- Fish for a Gyarados or Magikarp
Wild Gyarados appear in Lake Verity, Lake Acuity, Lake Valor, and other areas; however, players need to surf or use a super rod to catch one. Magikarp are far more common and appear in almost every body of water in "Pokémon Diamond." This makes it easier to find a shiny Magikarp.
- Battle wild Pokémon
The Poke Radar is a tool will not work in water areas, so players will need to battle wild Pokémon until a shiny version appears. The odds of finding a shiny Pokémon in the wild are 1 in 8192. Alternatively, the player can breed Magikarp until one of them produces a shiny offspring.
- Evolve Magikarp
If the player catches a shiny Magikarp, he can evolve it at level 20. The level-up process can be sped up by battling higher level Pokémon or using rare candies. Shiny basic Pokémon will always keep their shiny attributes when they evolve.
