The state of Texas rests in the Southwestern region of the USA. At more than 268,000 square miles, the Lone Star State covers more area than any of the lower 48 states and is second to only Alaska in size.
Texas is bordered by four states – Louisiana to the east, Arkansas to the northeast, Oklahoma to the north and New Mexico to the west. Mexico borders Texas at the south and west, while the Gulf of Mexico lays at the southeastern coastline. Of the 14 states bordering either Canada or Mexico, Texas' international border with Mexico stretches the longest.
