The Timucua Indian tribe made their home in northeastern Florida, north central Florida and southeast Georgia, reaching as far east as the Atlantic Ocean. In Georgia, Cumberland Island and the Altamaha River marked the northernmost areas of the Timucua's home. Orlando and the Aucilla River are the southernmost boundaries of the tribe's region.
Historians believe that the Timucua tribe was the first tribe to meet Spanish explorers, according to the University of South Florida.
The Timucua lived in both long houses and round homes. Long houses were made entirely from the wood, bark and branches of the Palmetto tree. Round homes were also made of Palmetto wood, but palm tree leaves were used for the roof.
