Is there a reliable substitute for allspice?

A mixture of 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon cloves and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg can be used as a substitute for 1 1/2 teaspoons of allspice. When a less pronounced clove or nutmeg flavor benefits the recipe, cooks use 1/4 teaspoon of either or both of these seasonings.
While some companies sell a mix of seasonings under the name allspice, the spice originating from Jamaica and other areas of the West Indies is traditionally made from dried pimento berries, which taste similar to a combination of other seasonings. Allspice is called for in Caribbean and Latin dishes such as jerk seasoning, meat, chutneys, pickles and sweet dishes.
