To remove fresh oil stains from clothing, cover the stain with cornstarch for 30 minutes, then cover the stain with a liquid dish detergent. Flush the stain with water, and treat it with a prewash stain remover. Wash the clothing on the warmest water setting possible, and let it air dry.
- Treat the stain with cornstarch
Cover the fresh oil stain on the clothing item with a thin layer of cornstarch. Let it sit for 30 minutes to soak up as much of the oil as possible.
- Apply dishwashing liquid to the stain
Shake off the cornstarch, then apply a heavy-duty dishwashing liquid to the stain. Use a toothbrush to rub the liquid into the stain well. Let it sit for a few minutes, then flush the stain with running water.
- Apply a pre-wash stain remover to the stain
Spray the stain with a high-quality stain remover that contains enzymes.
- Wash the stained clothing
Place the clothing item in the washing machine with a stain-fighting laundry detergent. Set the water on warm or hot.
- Air dry the clothing
Allow the clothing to air dry after washing. Do not use an electric dryer, as this can cause the stain to set. Repeat the process if oil remains on the clothing.
