To remove the odor of skunk spray, use a mixture of peroxide, baking soda and liquid detergent. Allow the mixture to remain on the affected surfaces for several minutes before rinsing with clean water.
- Mix peroxide and baking soda
Mix 1 quart peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda and 1 teaspoon liquid detergent in a container. Do not place a lid on the container, and use the mixture immediately to ensure it effectively removes the odor.
- Apply peroxide mixture to skin
Pour the peroxide mixture directly onto affected skin areas, and allow it to remain for several minutes. The mixture can be used for both pets and humans, but should not be applied to the face. Rinse the body with clean water, then wash with soap and water. Peroxide may cause the hair to change color. To minimize color changes caused by peroxide, allow the mixture to remain on the body for the shortest time possible. Check for results after a few minutes.
- Treat clothing and other surfaces
Colorfast clothing and other surfaces, such as outdoor furnishings and exterior walls, can also be treated with the peroxide mixture to remove lingering odors. Apply the mixture to the affected surface, and rinse thoroughly with clean water after several minutes.
