How do you remove wallpaper glue from walls?

According to Family Handyman, removing wallpaper is messy, tedious and time-consuming. Make the job easier by assembling the tools and products you need beforehand, including: drop cloths, buckets, liquid dishwashing detergent, vinegar, gel stripper, scrapers, sponges and a sponge floor mop.

1. Prepare the room

   Tape plastic dropcloths to protect the flooring and base trim. Keep a supply of plastic garbage bags on hand to dispose of the glue and paper that you remove from the walls.

2. Strip the wallpaper

   If you have not already removed the surface paper, do so now. This allows you a more direct access to the glue that remains stuck on the wall.

3. Wet the glue

   Mix a solution of dishwashing detergent and water in the bucket. Use the hottest water you can stand. Apply it to the wall using a sponge or a sponge mop, saturating the glue. Rub gently to wash away to glue as it softens.

4. Pour on the vinegar

   SFGate recommends applying a vinegar solution to stubborn glue that does not dissolve. Use a damp, but not dripping sponge to apply the solution, and allow it to sit for several minutes. Wipe away the glue.

5. Scrape away the residue

   Use a plastic drywall knife to scrape away any remaining residue. If any glue remains on the wall, spray it with a gel stripper, wait about 15 minutes and scrape away the remaining glue.
