To remove a water stain from the ceiling, clean the stain with a solution of three parts water and one part bleach. Apply a stain-blocking primer, and repaint. You need a paint roller, primer, water, bleach, ceiling paint, a rag, and paper towels to complete this task.
- Repair the leak
Fix the source of the leak to prevent more leakage. Seal a small hole with bondex. Replace the iron sheet or roof tile if the hole is not sealable.
- Clean the stain
Mix three parts water and one part bleach in a bucket. Place a plastic sheet directly below the stain so you don't dampen the ground. Dampen a clean rag with the solution, and scrub off any mold and dirt. Once clean, rinse the spot, and dry it with a paper towel.
- Apply the primer
Use a paint roller to apply a stain-blocking primer to cover the spot. Use paint brush in the corners. Take care not to inhale fumes from the primer to avoid poisoning. Allow the primer to dry.
- Repaint the spot
Once the primer is dry, use a paint roller to paint the ceiling with a matching ceiling paint. Use a paint brush to paint in the corners. Let it dry, and paint again if needed.
