How do you replace the battery in a laptop?

To replace the battery in a laptop, turn off the laptop and disconnect it from the alternating current adapter. At the bottom of the laptop, find the latch that holds the battery in place and release it. Remove the battery by sliding it out of the battery compartment.

Remove the new battery from its box, and slide it into the battery compartment. Make sure that the battery is in place, and close the latches. Connect the laptop to the AC adapter to recharge the new battery until it is fully charged.

Some laptops must be disassembled before the batteries can be released. If you have one of these laptops, you may need to take it to a licensed repair facility to replace the battery.
