In order to replace a turn signal switch the steering column must be removed, the battery disconnected and the unit replaced. The task is relatively simple to complete, but requires a basic understanding of the car's electrical system.
A turn signal switch's function is to send an electrical current down to each turn sign signal and make them blink. The following instructions explain how to safely replace a turn signal switch:
- Disconnect the negative battery cable
- Remove the steering column
- Locate and remove the switch
- Install new unit
Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery cable to avoid shock.
Use a screwdriver to remove the steering column screws.
The switch is located under the turn signal lever. Unbolt and disconnect it from its wiring harness.
Mount the new unit and reinstall the steering column, along with the negative battery cable.
