Do the Republican budget proposals include cuts to Social Security, unemployment and welfare benefits?

The House Republican budget proposal for the 2016 fiscal year includes cuts to most government assistance programs including $913 billion in cuts to Medicare over the next 10 years and $1 trillion in unspecified cuts to various welfare programs. The budget does not include direct cuts to Social Security.

The budget proposes billions in decreased spending for government programs such as food stamps and unemployment benefits. Under this plan Medicare will transition to a block grant program for those over 56 with a voucher program for those under 56. The budget also calls for a total repeal of the Affordable Care Act while also proposing dramatically increased military and defense spending.
