Where do rhinos live?

Rhinoceri are native to Africa and Asia. White rhinos live in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Botswana. Black rhinos inhabit southern and western Africa, especially around Tanzania, Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Designations of black and white describe the rhinoceros' features and habits rather than color. White is a misinterpretation of the regional dialect's word for the width of the rhino's mouth. Black rhinos use dark-colored mud to protect their skin. Rhinoceros populations live in Nepal, as well as Sumatra and Borneo. Javan rhinos live only in Indonesia's Ujung Kulon National Park. Grasslands and savannas support the rhinos' grazing habits. A group of rhinos is called a "crash."
