As of March 2015, the highest-paid football player in England is Wayne Rooney of Manchester United. Under the contract extension Rooney accepted in 2014, he earns slightly over $420,000 per week and approximately $26 million per year, including commercial rights.

Rooney's contract extension was for $104 million and lasts until June of 2019. At the time of the extension in 2014, the contract made Wayne Rooney the highest-paid player in English Premier League history. Combined with his current endorsement deals, Rooney is not only the highest-paid player in the English Premier League, but also one of the highest-paid football stars in the world.
