An RN is a registered nurse who has graduated from an educational program as stated by UC Irvine. An RN is required to attend 3 to 4 years of education plus training.
Registered nurses are trained to have an extensive knowledge base regarding care and intervention to prevent and cure diseases in patients. RNs work closely with doctors and other medical professionals to assess symptoms, record information, take vitals and administer certain treatments. Some registered nurses are trained to work in specific fields such as pediatrics or geriatrics, and some are also trained to work as critical care nurses or emergency and trauma nurses as stated by Explore Health Careers.
