The four bases found in RNA are guanine, cytosine, adenine and uracil. Typically, these four bases are abbreviated and listed as G, C, A and U. RNA, which stands for ribonucleic acid, is a molecule that is made up of one or more nucleotides.
The structure of RNA is very similar to that of DNA, which stands for deoxyribonucleic acid. The main difference is that the ribose sugar backbone in RNA has a hydroxyl group that DNA does not contain. Another difference between the two is that DNA uses the base thymine in place of uracil. DNA and RNA carry genetic information that is transmitted from one generation to the next.
