"Rocket To The Moon" is a painting by African American artist, Romare Bearden. This well-known collage is composed of animals, buildings, African American faces and a street light.
Bearden, attended NYU in 1935 and dabbled in both in poetry and collage artwork. The thought behind "Rocket to the Moon" is that if man can send a rocket to the moon, then why can't he fix the problems associated with inner city living. Bearden made collages about his observations of every day life in North Carolina. For example, he incorporated trains into his work because many African Americans used train transportation at the time.
