What are roof baffles?

Roof baffles are a type of ventilation method installed in attics. The baffles create airflow to allow the attic to breathe properly and keep moisture and heat from causing mold or wood rot problems.

Roof baffles are called wind baffles, rafter vents, venting chutes and insulation baffles. Made from materials such as cardboard, rigid foam board and polyvinyl chloride, baffles also act as a screen for the attic insulation. Baffles are installed up the rafter bay from the soffit vent or along the rafter bay from ridge vent to soffit vent. Depending on the installation method, insulation then covers the baffles.
