Rose of Sharon seeds are found in the flowers of an upright deciduous shrub named Hibiscus syriacus, or shrub althea. Native to east Asia, Rose of Sharon plants are used in landscaping designs. They are planted alone, in groups or a few inches apart to forms hedges or screens.
A low-maintenance shrub, Rose of Sharon is best suited for planting in areas receiving full sun to partial shade. Well-drained soil and organic varieties are ideal. The shrub thrives with medium watering, but it is able to tolerate drought conditions for some time. It blooms between early summer and fall and can grow to heights of up to 12 feet.
