What is a Royal Canadian Mint coin?

The Royal Canadian Mint produces all coinage in Canada, both for circulation and collectors coins. Coins minted for circulation are issued as Canadian currency and are used to make everyday purchases in Canada. The designs on the reverse side of the coins change frequently.
Collectors coins from the Royal Canadian Mint are issued to be held in private collections and are not meant as currency, though they can be used as such. These coins are minted in precious metals, limited print runs and unique designs. Since the intention of these coins is not to be active currency, they carry metal weights and prices far above their face value.
