Is it safe to pop a cyst at home?

It is not recommended to pop a cyst at home, according to WebMD. Infection can spread to other parts of the body if the cyst is infected and drains unsatisfactorily following a rupture. Regrowth of the cyst can also occur if a part of it is left over following removal.
Skin cysts are noncancerous pockets of tissue that are often filled with fluid or puss, states WebMD. Infection, clogging of sebaceous glands and reactions to foreign bodies such as earrings can produce cysts. Skin cysts are often painless, slow in growth and smooth to the touch. Many skin cysts disappear over time, but others may require medical attention for removal.
