Pope Boniface VIII canonized Saint Augustine in 1303. Augustine was canonized after popular recognition as a Doctor of the Church. His feast day is held on August 28.

Saint Augustine is the patron saint of brewers, sore eyes, theologians, printers and several cities throughout the world. Saint Augustine was born in Tagaste in the year 430.

Saint Augustine is one of the four fathers of the Latin church. He is best known for his writings in the book "Confessions," which has inspired notable philosophers like John Calvin and Thomas Aquinas. Saint Augustine wrote about justified war, the existence of evil and intellectual thought.
