The man who eventually came to be known as St. Patrick was born under the name of Maewyn Succat around 390 C.E. His name was likely changed to Patrick when he was around 16 years old, at which point he is said to have been kidnapped from his Roman family by Irish pirates and sold into slavery.
The exact date and location of St. Patrick's birth is not known, though there are several different theories that explain his life and existence. It is theorized that he was born in the late fourth century, and he served as a missionary during the latter half of the fifth century.
