Salt blocks attract deer, since deer need salt in their diets and look for foods that provide salt. Placing a salt black in an area where evidence of deer exists, such as droppings or tracks, is a good way to attract deer. Most feed stores sell salt blocks.

Position the salt block on a steel T-shaped post, mounting it about 3 feet from the ground. Place the block in an area that provides tree or brush cover. Deer may find the salt block in a few hours, or it may take days for them to find it and feel comfortable enough to feed from it. Notably, many states prohibit hunters from luring deer out with salt blocks.
