How is salt manufactured?

In general, salt is harvested in one of three ways: shaft-mining, solution-mining and evaporation, according to Maldon Salt. The oceans provide much of the world's salt, especially since most natural deposits of salt are from dried-up oceans.
Shaft-mining is achieved by carving out rooms underground and then removing the salt deposits. Solution mining involves pushing water into underground mines, which creates a saltwater solution. The solution is moved to the surface, which is then dried out again. The primary evaporation method involves using the sun to dry out saltwater in large beds. Though the sun is used to dry out and harvest the salt, the salt is washed again once harvested.
